President Thomson headed Western from 1941 to 1945. She was born in North Carolina in 1886. Although her husband passed away in 1939 leaving her to raise their five children alone, she was nominated for “Mother of the Year” in 1942. These were the war years and Victory Gardens were planted. The girls learned to use marionettes and traveled throughout the United States giving shows. Six-week summer courses were started. President Thomson resigned in 1945 for reasons of health and family.
